The July summer camp program for 25 children in institutional care has come to an end, made possible by your donations totaling UAH 312,960 (~$7,033 USD). This summer, the Orphans Future Foundation organized a stay for the children at the Lisovyi Recreation Center, where they were able to relax, have fun, and enjoy their summer.
This opportunity was made possible thanks to the generosity of the United Ukrainian American Relief Committee in the United States; Ceri Lawley, Ken Surridge, and Daniel Sayles from the United Kingdom; and caring members of the Ternopil community. We sincerely thank everyone who helped provide this summer experience for the children during the war.
During their stay, the children:
• Rode pedal boats
• Swam in the lake
• Hiked through the forest and visited waterfalls
• Participated in games and competitions
They enjoyed a varied menu, met new people, made friends, and—at least for a while—experienced a completely different world: a world of adventure and freedom. We are especially grateful to Karina and Olesia, volunteers from Ternopil, who dedicated five days of their time to working with the children. Your involvement was incredibly valuable.
We also thank the team at the Lisovyi Recreation Camp for their partnership, hospitality, and willingness to welcome children who need additional support and special accommodations to enjoy a comfortable stay.
The children are still at the camp, but the next stage of their stay is now being funded by the Ukrainian government. Through our contribution, we have helped strengthen the government’s capacity to care for children in institutional care in Ukraine.
Summer camps like this help children step beyond their familiar surroundings, become more independent, communicate with others, discover their abilities, make friends, and see that the world can be bigger and more exciting.
