For a young person, starting student life is always a new chapter. A new city, a dormitory, studies, new friendships, and the first independent decisions.

For young men and women leaving the care of residential institutions, however, this transition can be especially challenging.

That is why the team of the Orphans Future Foundation continues to support young people not only throughout their studies, but also during the first days and weeks of independent life.

This time, we met over breakfast. There were no formal speeches or unnecessary ceremony—just a cup of tea, good food, and an honest conversation about what independent life really looks like when it begins.

The young people shared their first impressions:

• what it is like living in a dormitory;

• how they organize their meals;

• how their studies are going;

• what new friendships they have already made;

• what they enjoy and what has turned out to be more difficult than expected.

Our coordinator, Zoryana, reminded them about important things that are easy to put off but that can help them confidently build their independent lives: registering with a family doctor, getting a student ID, attending classes responsibly, and being mindful of the people around them so as not to fall under the influence of questionable peer groups.

Liuba, a third-year student, also shared her own experience of combining studies with work and gradually becoming financially independent.

For those who are just beginning this journey, conversations like these are especially valuable.

Because sometimes the best advice is not a lecture, but the example of someone who has already taken a few steps further along the way.

During the meeting, we also told the young people about events the Foundation is planning in the coming months.

And we invited them not simply to follow a ready-made program, but to choose for themselves:

• where they would like to go;

• what they would like to learn;

• what skills they would like to develop;

• what new places they would like to discover.

Because independent life is not only about responsibility.

It is also about having the freedom to choose your own path.

We want our graduates to know that their connection with the Foundation does not end when they leave a residential institution. On the contrary—when real independence begins, it is especially important to know who they can turn to when they have a problem, need advice, or simply want someone to talk to.

The Orphans Future Foundation team is here for them. We cannot live this journey for them. But we can support them, offer guidance, help them take the next step, and believe in their own abilities.

Because our goal is not simply to help a young person leave an institution.

Our goal is to help them learn how to build their own life independently.
