Life Skills Workshop for orphanage teens

From November 8 to 10, twelve reens from Berezhany and Ternopil state run institutions increased their level of knowledge and skills during another practical training "On the threshold of independence", organized for them by team from Orphans Future Foundation.

In 48 hours, teenagers received practical advice and tools for effective money management and how to protect themselves from financial fraud from coaches Maksym and Kateryn Grigoriev. Learned how to make a family budget for the month with income and expenses, determine priorities in spending and in unexpected moments, looked in detail at what phishing attacks look like, which often try to steal personal data, and also discussed methods of deception over the Internet, such as fraudulent online ads or fake profiles. Children learned to analyze situations, recognize potential threats and make informed decisions so as not to become victims of manipulation. An important aspect was the provision of tools for self-protection, including guidelines for safe use of social media, tips for privacy settings and steps to take to protect your personal data online.

For the first time, children learned about chess and tried to play this intellectual game after taking an introductory course from Lilia Prots at the Center for Intellectual Development "Brainstorming". It was difficult for the children, but important if they want to start thinking strategically.

Together with Volodymyr and Zoryana, the children improved their ability to sculpt dumplings and then taste them.

Girls and boys improved their ability to make menus and budgets, make purchases for real money, cook for themselves, clean up after themselves, and learn to navigate the city.

Systematic mentoring is an important moment in the lives of children living in institutions.

We would like to thank Mr. Paul and Ken from the UK, Halytskyi Zamok restaurant and Dobra Pizza pizzeria for supporting the social integration of children in foster care during their participation in the On the Threshold of Independent Life program.
