Despite the daily talk about the war and sirens, the children had the opportunity to relax, to talk about the important things in life, and to enjoy their summer vacation.
The programme “Канікули на Дачі” hosted 12 high school students of the Berezhany and Ternopil state-run orphanages at the charity house in Ternopil. The children had a lot of interesting and fun activities during the five days on the programme organized by Orphans’ Future Foundation.
The schedule combined leisure activities with socially responsible activities, including:
- making varenyky for the defenders of Ukraine with the "Bunker S" Public Community of Volunteers, Ternopil.
- riding bicycles around the city of Ternopil courtesy of our partnership with Caritas Ternopil
- consulting with Alla Melnichuk
- learning how electric scooters at the ELEEK enterprise in the city of Ternopil are made.
- touring the Ternopil meat processing plant to learn how meat products are produced and sold.
- swimming at the Alligator Aquapark, and bowling and skating at the Podolyan Mall.
- working in our green house, a social project where agricultural skills are developed. We harvested 4 kg lettuce, which was handed to the Mammoth Friendly Restaurant.
- eating their fill of cherries from the trees in our garden.
- cooking hot dogs and burgers on the barbecue for an outdoor feast on Sunday. Thanks to Volodia Yavorskyy for the master class in barbecuing.
Thanks to local restaurants, the children were able to eat out for lunch, instead of having to prepare meals, as they do for breakfast and dinner every day. Eating out teaches the children important social skills, preparing them for when they leave the institution.
As always, during their stay at the foundation, the children planned the food menu, purchased ingredients with funds from our benefactors, and then prepared breakfast and dinner for themselves. We would like to thank Hope Church Dubuque for the financial support of this project, the goal of which is the gradual and gentle socialization of high school students in child care institutions to adult independent life.
