Life Skills training program

A male paratrooper landed at the foundation's base last weekend. The twelve teenagers aged 14-17, from Berezhny and Ternopil care institutions, took part in the Life Skills Program "On the threshold of independent life". This Program has been implemented by our foundation annually since 2012, and its purpose is to give children of care institutions a sense of independence to real life, as well as to increase the level of necessary skills.

Thanks to charitable contributions in January from Annya Knautz ($50) and Sue Weingartz and Carlene Lois ($50), as well as the "Stara Pizzeria" cafe, which provided 30 pizzas for our participants, we held the first three-day meeting this year on the basis of the Resource Center of Orphans Future Foundation.

With these funds, we were able to ensure the arrival and departure of twelve Program participants, to purchase food, so the children can prepare their own breakfasts, dinners and lunches. Children, once again, improve and perfect the skill of drawing up budget and menu, make independent purchases of products, and learn to navigate in a new area.

In addition to practical classes, children had the opportunity to take self-assessment and aptitude tests. According to the results of which, they found out who is entrepreneurial, intellectual, artistic, social or realistic. Everyone recognized himself in the tests and understood the need to raise their self-esteem. For team building skills, the participants performed the "Tower" exercise. Having the same materials, each team had the task of creating a Tower which would be stable and the tallest but in silence. From this exercise, the participants got different impressions and experiences. This exercise was part of the topics "Effective communication" and "The problem and ways to solve it." In order to consolidate the material, after lunch, the three teams "Saturdays", "Smurfs" and "Lights" went on a practical two-hour quest through the city, completing 5 tasks from an envelope. Each team did a good job.

On Sunday, the children were treated to a practical game called "Financial Literacy", conducted by Oleksandr Sokhatskyi and his assistant Iryna. Compared to the last game in 2022, this time, the participants already had certain skills and showed better results.

Lunch on Sunday was cooked together. There was borscht and dumplings – the Sunday tradition of most Ukrainian families.

The time spent at the house of the organization met the children's expectations. Someone took a break from school, someone had the opportunity to express their thoughts out loud, go for a walk in new places, cook and eat a favorite dish and spend weekends in a home atmosphere watching movies related to current events.

We sincerely thank our supporters for giving us and the children such opportunities to develop, improve and become stronger.
