October News

During October 2013 Orphans Future organized the following events and actions:

- Graduates from the Class of 2013 and other alumni from various orphanages met at the Ternopil Information Resource Center (Chumac?ka str. 37) during September and October. Volunteers at Orphans Future talked about their activities, resources available at the Center and about plans for the year 2014. The graduates were asked to be involved in charitable actions and properly use the resources offered by the organization. The students expressed concerns and worries about difficulties they encountered after leaving the orphanage. Fifteen graduates received basic housewares: Cookware Kit, blankets and bed sheets from the Rotary Club of Rouse Hill and International.

- Representatives from Orphans Future, including Iryna Vakaluk, Eugene Lisnyak and Andriy Nazarenko held two working meetings with representatives of the City Council of Ternopil: Mr. Igor Turs?kiy and Mr. Volodimir Kamins?kiy. The meeting addressed housing problems graduates of boarding schools are having. Many recent graduates are on waiting lists to receive housing from the local government. Steps were taken to begin implementation an urban housing construction program to assist these graduates.

- Orphans Future volunteers have started the charitable project "Winter Shoes for Children Living in Orphanages". We are planning to purchase and distribute about one hundred pairs of winter shoes for orphans in the Berezhany, NoveSelo, Strusiv, Zalishchytski, Grimajliv, and Ternopil orphanages. The beginning of the project was supported by two Rotary Clubs (in Ternopil and Rouse Hill) along with Christine and Olya Dmytryk from England. The Partner of the project is the "Area of Shoes" shop operated by Mr. Yuri Homic?kij, which gives the maximum possible discount on children's shoes. In October 2013, Orphans Future volunteers distributed 32 pairs of winter shoes to the Berezhany orphanage, and 13 pairs to the Maliatko baby orphanage in Ternopil.

- Orphans Future installed six energy-saving windows and doors in the St. Stepan Bandera Street Ternopil orphanage. The project received financial support courtesy of the World Orphan Project, Inc. from the United States.

- The educational project "Virtual Training Class for Orphans" recently began in the Ternopil orphanage. There are now three modern laptops used for online English learning classes thanks to our Dutch friends from the WALO organization.
