A charity nike ride called “Riding to support Orphan graduates” was held on July 22nd, starting at the Ternopil Theater Square.
About fifty keen bike riders participated in this fun event, the first of its kind in Ternopil with the aim of raising awareness of the problems of orphan graduates who are finally leaving institutional care to fend for themselves. Our slogan at this events was “Don’t be uncaring about the needs of orphans”.
Another aim of the bike ride was to invite donation of basic items needed for everyday life, which the orphan graduates need to acquire such as kitchen utensils, pots and pans, or assistance to purchase these items to give to give the orphan graduates a confident start to their new lives in which they will certainly face many challenges and difficulties.
Those who took part in the bike ride undertook a circular tour of the city of Ternopil, including the picturesque Topilche and Shevchenko Parks and coursed along by the lake to the “Gipsy” Beach before returning to the Theater Square. By all accounts a very enjoyable ride which served the additional purpose of the bike enthusiasts who are actively promoting a healthy lifestyle and greater road access for bikes in Ternopil.
The safety of the bike riders and pedestrians during the event was ensured by the presence of the Ternopil Police Patrol who we thank for their cooperation.
Upon completion of this charity bike rally, the participants took part in the drawing of prizes and vouchers certificates provided by local business, which included hairdressing salons, Frisor, Bulldog, FreeMan and Kuzmich as well as the “Gorgany” shop for tourists.
We would also like to Thank the talented young vocalist, Victoria who sung many wonderful songs to entertain the crowd during the event. 4800 UAH was donated as well as several of the needed items themselves.
Thanks to local media who helped to promote the event beforehand and for their subsequent coverage of the event which has helped to develop an awareness of the needs of orphans in the local community and how they can play a part in meeting some of those needs.
Our Foundation thanks all the participants, volunteers and supporters that made this event success that it was.
We expect that our next bike ride for orphans will be even bigger and better.
