Bicycles from the Netherlands Brings Joy to Orphans
140 bicycles from the Netherlands were delivered to children living in orphanage boarding schools in Ternopil region of Ukraine (Berezhany, Nove Selo, Ternopil, Terebovlya, Zalischyky, and Hrymailiv).
During 2016, friends of the WALO Organization from the city of Ahterveld in the Netherlands collected used bikes and sent them to Ukrainian orphan children. In 2017, there were many events held to collect funds to have the bikes sent from the Netherlands to the city of Ternopil.
In March 2017, fifty thousands Ukrainian hryvnya was collected toward the purchase of the bikes. Volodymyr Yavorskyy, a board member at Orphans’ Future Foundation, flew to the Netherlands to acquire the bikes and deliver them to Ternopil as humanitarian aid for the orphans. During April and May 2017, children from local orphanages picked up the bikes, attended master classes for repair and care of bicycles, and learned rules for cyclists. The children are very satisfied with the donated bicycles, and hope that they will be able to ride them in their spare time. The kids also stated that they hoped management at the boarding schools will allow them to use the bikes often.
On behalf of all the orphans and children, Orphans’ Future would like to thank our friends at the WALO Organization http://www.stichtingwalo.nl/. Thanks also goes out to volunteers from Ternopil for leading master classes on caring for bicycles, and also to Ternopil City School # 24 for assisting with storage.
Finally, a big thank you to our friends in the United States, Spain and the Netherlands for ongoing financial support of Orphans' Future.
