From March 17th to 18th, 2016 in Odessa there were 22 representatives of public and charitable organizations from all regions of Ukraine that supported the nationwide civil campaign "Open the doors to children" (more informatiion is here). The campaign was initiated by the charitable organization "Hope and Homes for Children" which brought together partners of like-minded people from all over Ukraine with Orphans’ Future being a partner and coordinator of the project in Ternopil Region since 2014.
For two days, the participants:
- Shared their experience of work in child protection reform in the different regions of Ukraine and forged partnerships;
- Received a presentation on further work towards informing the public about the deficiencies of institutional orphanage boarding school educational system for the future of the child;
- Presented the experience of agreements reached with Odessa Oblast State administration in the direction of cooperation in reform of the institutional system;
- Jointly develop strategies of establishing partnerships with local authorities and orphanages in order to review and improve the operation of the boarding schools system in Ukraine;
After the conference the participants had a clearer vision for implementing strategies with the aim to bring about the eventual closure of institutions through further development of community-based child support services in their regions.
