On December 15th, 2015 more than a hundred children who were deprived of parental care arrived in Ternopil city from eleven state-run institutions of the Ternopil region. The children visited the "residence of St. Nicholas", which was located in the Berezil’ Cultural Center. For the third consecutive year, Orphans’ Future organizes the charity event for the children from orphanages of the Ternopil region and attracts sponsors and volunteers to turn children’s dreams to reality.
Seventeen year old Bohdan, a former orphan from Koropets boarding school, was actively involved in all the preparations for the St.Nicolas event this year. A year ago he was making Christmas gifts for a similar event but this year he decided to volunteer for Orphans’ Future. Bohdan said, " Children who have no parents will not have anything put anything under their pillow for St Nicholas Day. And this organization (Orphans' Future) does something special for the children that their parents can’t do"
Some comments from the children who attended:
"I arrived here with another twelve children. We drew pictures and wrote letters to St. Nicolas. Everything here is excellent. At St. Nicholas workshop we make all sorts of different products, we always learn something new."- said Catherine from the Zbarazh boarding school. Roman from Kremenets boarding school says, " I was happy today to be here with my sister at St. Nicholas’ residence. My first request was to ask God for health."
This year, the St. Nicholas event was also visited by the heads of the administration of the Ternopil Region and Ternopil City who congratulated the children and wished them good health and promised more support from the government.
Children from different orphanage boarding schools interacted with each other and actively participated in workshops making Christmas decorations. Each child gladly studied the technique of making ornaments and created his or her masterpieces for New Year and Christmas. "I did an angel out of clay last year. Even now I still remember how to do everything", said 13-year-old Vladislav Puzakov as he shared his memories of last year's event and added that, "Today I want to make a gift out of clay, but in another form."
Orphans and children deprived of parental care believe in St. Nicholas and look forward to the Miracle gifts so the Orphans Future team organizes the celebration every year to make their dreams real.
The orphans were entertained by children from Ternopil Creative Center Group who demonstrated their talents by singing and dancing and the orphans were also thrilled by the antics of fairy-tale characters who came to life, courtesy of the center "Korovaj". The highlight of the celebration for the children came of course when St. Nicholas himself made a special visit and together with volunteers gave the children delicious and healthy treats and gifts. After that, all children enjoyed a wonderful dinner at some of the local restaurants of Ternopil City, including Skorini, Galician Castle, Khutir, and Bratislava.
Orphans’ Future would like to thank all the volunteers and contributors who helped to give great joy and some unforgettable memories, attention, care and love to the children who have lived nearly all their lives in state-run institutions. Our wish is that the New Year will bring peace, kindness and more warm homes for orphans. But we can't do it without your help. Remember that only together we can do more to achieve good outcomes in the lives of these orphans. Please join us now!
